Vice Principal - Deep Support

I have worked for Outwood Grange Academies Trust since 2010 holding various roles and working in a number of our academies. When I was asked to return to Outwood Grange Academy in September 2018 I was utterly delighted. As Vice Principal for Deep Support, I am responsible for behaviour and safety; attendance and safeguarding; Praising Stars© intervention and impact; as well as line-managing Inclusion, the Learning Managers and the Attendance team. I am in a privileged position as on a daily basis I can see the impact of the Trust’s policies in practice: how together we are raising standards in education and transforming the lives of our students and wider communities.

My career has been extremely diverse and I have held a number of leadership roles. Before joining OGAT, I was Head of English for 4 years and went on to lead a successful Post 16 Centre in Wakefield for 2 years. I joined the Trust as Assistant Principal for Post 16 Learning in 2010 and was part of the leadership team that gained the ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted judgement in 2012. Between 2014-2018, I worked at Outwood Academy Carlton in Barnsley, where I was Associate Vice Principal, firstly, in Deep Experience (Curriculum, Timetabling, Careers and Enrichment) and then in Deep Support. I was rightly proud of the transformation at Outwood Academy Carlton which went straight from Special Measures to Good in December2015 and had some of the country’s best Progress 8 figures.

Working with young people is both rewarding and challenging; it creates the greatest professional satisfaction of any career I know. I love my job – both as a senior leader and classroom practitioner – and take great pride in working for the Trust. I feel very fortunate to work for an organisation that promotes career progression and expects excellence at every level. I am excited to be starting the National Qualification for Headship this year and in the future hope to lead my own Trust academy. For the next few years, my sights are clearly set on providing outstanding leadership at Outwood Grange Academy.
